Dextrose (= grape sugar C₆H₁₂O₆) is a sugar that is absorbed very quickly by animals. It is a fine white, odorless and sweet powder.

Sugars stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. Due to the increased sugar and consequently insulin level, more IGF (Insulin like Grow Factor) is produced. This causes the production of FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone).

FSH: Follicle-stimulating hormone, a hormone that promotes oocyte maturation, ovulation and the formation of estrogenic hormones in sows. In bears, this hormone influences sperm cell maturation.

LH: is a hormone that is produced in the pituitary gland. In sows it stimulates the ovaries to form a vesicle (follicle) in which an egg cell matures. In boars, it promotes the production of the male hormone testosterone in the testes.
