Our highly productive cows are all top athletes. Good management and optimal guidance are required. Problems such as (sub)clinical acetonemia can arise, especially during the transition period.

A major risk factor for developing Ketosis is fatty liver disease. All cows will end up in a negative energy balance in the first weeks of lactation because milk production is higher than dry matter intake. In fatty liver disease, this negative energy balance will be even more pronounced. Fatty cows will consume even less feed and exhibit excessive fat breakdown in order to provide their bodies with the energy required for high milk production.

This excessive fat breakdown releases many free fatty acids and too many ketone bodies are produced, which gives rise to (sub)clinical Ketosis. The free fatty acids and ketone bodies will also have negative effects on the cow's defenses and production. In addition, acetonemia is often a precursor to developing a variety of other related metabolic and inflammatory conditions such as abomasal dilation, metritis and hypocalcemia.

That is why Indufarm has developed a number of tasty nutritional supplements in close collaboration with nutritionists, veterinarians and technical advisors to prevent negative energy balance and to promote liver activity.
