IF Maxid Fourage – more palatable mash and silage that stays fresh for longer
By adding specific acids, the growth of yeasts and moulds is reduced, and the feed has a longer shelf life (whilst retaining its nutritional value).
Advantages for silage:
- Rapid stabilisation: formic acid immediately lowers the pH, inhibits unwanted bacteria and stabilises the silage.
- Heating and yeast inhibition: propionic acid prevents heating and fermentation when the silage is opened.
- Mould prevention: sorbic acid provides long-lasting protection against mould.
- Extra-broad-spectrum effect: benzoic acid enhances the inhibition of bacteria and yeasts, even in wet silage or under variable conditions.
- Improved feed intake and energy: propionic acid is converted into propionate, and then into glucose, giving cattle more energy and often leading them to eat more.
- Balanced fermentation: Harmful microorganisms are inhibited, whilst the desired fermentation process remains largely unaffected.
- Safer and more practical: less aggressive than pure formic acid, easier to use.
- Versatile: protects against multiple problems at once (overheating, mould, rot).

- Less fermentation and gas production: inhibits unwanted yeast and bacteria, ensuring the slurry remains stable in pipes, tanks and feeders
- Prevents spoilage due to heating: propionic acid and sorbic acid inhibit the growth of mould and yeast, even in warm conditions.
- Rapid stabilisation: Formic acid immediately lowers the pH of the mash, thereby reducing the risk of spoilage.
- Extra broad-spectrum protection: benzoic acid enhances the inhibition of bacteria and yeasts, even in mixtures rich in sugar or starch.
- Safer and more practical: less aggressive than pure formic acid; easy to dose in pipes and mixing systems.

Most products on the market contain formic acid and propionic acid, but they rarely contain benzoic acid, and almost never sorbic acid. It is precisely these two that have a powerful inhibitory effect on yeasts and moulds, for example:

Consequences of overheating

IF Maxid Fourage is a feed supplement based on sodium chloride, 1,2-propanediol and organic acids, designed to ensure optimal preservation. This ensures that the nutritional value is preserved to the fullest extent and that the flavour is also retained.
With these characteristics, your CCM silage has a greater chance of heating up:
- High dry matter content
- Moderate compaction (plenty of oxygen in the silage)
- Poor coverage (weight causes greater compaction)
- Encased too quickly or not compacted enough
- High pH
- A lot of sugar
- High temperature during ensiling
- Incorrect method of removing manure from the pit
- Low feed rate
- High temperature of the silage during removal from the silo
- High outside temperature
To minimise the risk of heating, all factors must be optimal, both during ensiling and removal from the silo.
